A new green wheelie bin will be delivered to
households in West Berkshire over the next three months. This follows the
delivery of the new recycling containers as part of a major scheme to double
recycling rates in the district and dramatically reduce the amount of waste
going to landfill.
The new green garden waste service will enable residents to recycle grass cuttings, hedge trimmings and other garden waste. The new wheelie bins will be delivered in phases across the district throughout the summer. Along with their bin, residents will receive a comprehensive information leaflet including a collection calendar that will show them when the new service will start.
Geoff Findlay, West Berkshire's Executive Councillor for Environment and Waste said, "This is an important part of the new scheme as it will give residents the opportunity to recycle green waste from their homes. This improved service will greatly reduce the need for people in West Berkshire to travel to recycle their waste which is yet another plus point for the environment."
Veolia Environmental Services' General Manager, Keith McGurk said, "Enabling people to recycle even more from home will quickly reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill and increase the recycling rate, bringing us even closer to our targets of recycling 49% of rubbish and reducing landfill to less than 20%.This is a win-win for both the people of West Berkshire and the long-term future of our environment."
