Beech Hill History Society

A dozen or so residents of Beech Hill got together about three years ago in order to form the Beech Hill History Society, our aim being to write a book - The History of Beech Hill

We have progressed very well and have a book in the proof reading stage. There is still a lot of work to be done. Collecting old photographs and stories about the village really is an ongoing task.

We would love to hear from anyone who has any information or interest in the history of this village.

  R N L I  -  Mortimer and District Branch

The Mortimer and District Branch of the R N L I - the Lifeboats - is a fundraising Branch, it is now nearly 30 years old and still very active raising £12,000 plus each year.  In addition to monies used for the essential training of lifeboatmen and general operational costs, in 2004/05 we raised an additional £25,000 to purchase the D Class inshore Lifeboat Spirit of Mortimer now stationed at Teddington.

The R N L I covers the coasts of the UK and Ireland and last year the Irish President opened new Irish Headquarters in Dublin.  She said "The organisation is a classic example of the phenominal, unselfish, generous voluntary endeavour in literally thousands of spheres that goes on in Ireland around the clock week in week out, year in and year out, without thought of thanks or recognition"  These words  sum up equally the spirit of the entire organisation.  Pride, reflection,Trust, passion, Skill.
